Treadmill Desks Can Improve Your Health
It’s well understood that the human body isn’t meant to be sedentary for long periods of time. In fact, we are built to stand upright, walk, and run moderate distances. However, in this day in age, many of our occupations require us to sit at a desk for hours on end. A growing body of evidence suggests this can be harmful to health.
The Effects of a Sedentary Lifestyle
Our legs are the largest muscle group we own. When they are at work, they utilize key resources from our bodies that are naturally accounted for. As we sit, these muscles relax and take up very little glucose. This raises the risk of Type-2 Diabetes.
In addition, sitting can cause muscles throughout the body to stiffen, causing pain. The spine can also find itself in unnatural positions, creating further strain. Over time, this weakens the body and can reduce our overall vitality.
Weight Gain
It’s no surprise that a sedentary lifestyle can lead to weight gain. However, this can be easily combatted by opting to stand or walk more throughout the day. An individual who works while they stand can burn between 30-60 extra calories per hour while a person walking at a modest pace can increase their hourly burn by as much as 200 calories per hour.
Why Use a Treadmill Desk?
As home offices are becoming more and more common, so is the temptation to sit idle for most of the day. While there are certainly times to sit, our bodies were designed to stand and walk for a greater portion of the day than we often realize. A great way to introduce this activity into our schedule is to invest in specialized home office fitness equipment such as a treadmill desk.
The Benefits of a Treadmill Desk are Tremendous and Include:
- Mood improvement
- Increased creativity
- Increased productivity
- Stress reduction
- Healthier body weight
- Reduced risk of Type-2 Diabetes
- Lowered blood sugar
- Bone and muscle maintenance
As sedentary jobs have increased by 83 percent since 1950, we are in need of solutions that can help to combat this poor health trend. Treadmill desks are an easy and effective way to accomplish this.
Easy To Use
At first, the incorporation of fitness equipment into a home office may seem a bit overwhelming. But we can assure you that treadmill desks are both safe and simple to use. At Lifespan fitness, we offer two basic packages that you can seamlessly incorporate into your current setup.

For those who currently own a standing desk, this is likely the best option. The treadmill base can be placed under your existing desk, connected to power, and it’s ready to go.
